The Brown-Damonte Ranch is one of Reno's oldest ranches. The ranch was founded in 1858 by Peleg Brown, and the main ranch house was built in 1864. The ranch was a stagecoach stop and a railroad stop. The Brown Ranch was bought by Louis Damonte in 1939. During the 20th century Reno's borders grew to surround the ranch, especially in the 1990s and 2000s, and much of the ranch land was subdivided and turned into housing. The original ranch house still stands at 12945 Old Virginia Road. The 580 freeway was built in he 1990s and now runs just a few hundred yards from the house. This is the main house of the ranch.
